In this chapterGet answers about identity, configuration, privacy and connectivity.
Does GitTrail change my global Git settings?
Only by adding its own include lines. It never edits settings it
didn’t create, and removing an account removes its lines.
Will other Git tools (VS Code, the terminal) use the right account? Yes. GitTrail works through Git’s own configuration, so every tool sees the same identity and key. The push check protects pushes from any tool.
Can two accounts use the same host (two GitHub accounts)? Yes. Each account has its own SSH key and token, and GitTrail makes Git use the right one per repo.
Does GitTrail need internet? Only for things that need a server: cloning, fetching, pulling, pushing, pull requests, CI, and (for Pro) signing in and refreshing.
What if I stop using GitTrail?
Your repos keep working with plain Git. Remove GitTrail’s rules from the
Folder rules page (or gittrail remove) to clean up.
Is my code sent anywhere? No. Your code and keys stay on your computer. Pull request and CI features talk directly to your Git host as your account.
