GitTrail is in preview: commands and features may change before the first release, and host integrations are still being tested against each live service.

Chapter 4 of 29
On this page

In this chapterInstall GitTrail and prepare your first account.

Requirements: Windows (x64, Arm64), macOS (Intel, Apple Silicon) or Linux (x64, arm64), and Git 2.30 or newer. On Linux, the native window uses libwebkit2gtk-4.1; without it GitTrail opens a Chromium window.

Install with the installer or archive from the Download page, the install script, go install, or a package manager (Homebrew, Scoop, winget, AUR, Flatpak).

First start

  1. Open GitTrail (gittrail ui, or the app icon).
  2. A short tour shows you around (you can replay it from the command palette: Take the tour again).
  3. GitTrail offers to import accounts it finds in your existing Git and SSH setup. Review them and import the ones you want.
  4. Or add accounts yourself (see Accounts).

💡 Open a specific repo straight away with gittrail . (the current folder) or gittrail <folder>.

Check the result

GitTrail opens and offers an account import or manual setup.

Next step: Add a work or personal account.
