In this chapterAdd a repo and identify its next action.
All your repos in one list, with the selected repo on the right.
Get repos in: Add repository (or the three cards you see when there are no repos yet):
- Clone as the right account, into any folder or drive (shallow,
partial and sparse clones; from a
.bundlefile). You can also browse an account’s repos, or fork and clone in one step. - Add a folder: pick any folder. A repository is added and opens
straight away. A folder that isn’t a repository yet gets Make it a
repository?: GitTrail runs
git initthere and keeps every file as it is. It suggests a.gitignorefrom what’s in the folder (Node, Go, Python…), warns about.envand key files, and lets you make the first commit now or review the files in Changes first. - New repository: a new folder with a README,
.gitignore, license and the first branch’s name you choose, first commit made as the chosen account.
Each row shows the repo, the account it pushes as, the branch, a status line (● changes, ↑ to push, ↓ to pull, conflicts, account problems, Up to date, Local only) and when it was last active.
The details panel shows the account (change it there), branch, ahead/behind and when it was checked, and the next step: Commit, Pull, Push, Publish or Resolve conflicts. Overview lists changes and recent commits; Activity shows the history.
Handy tools
- Filters: All, Uncommitted, To push, To pull, Attention.
- Sort and search: recently active, most to do, or name; press
/to search. - List or cards, remembered.
- Check all for updates: fetches every repo one after another (with Stop). Nothing is pulled.
- Favorites and recent appear first and in the sidebar.
- Open in an editor or IDE: every row has an editor button listing the editors installed (VS Code, Cursor, JetBrains IDEs, Visual Studio, Zed, Sublime Text…).
- Search all repositories: code or commit messages in every repo.
- Missing folders say so and offer Remove from list.
ℹ️ Counts not checked for an hour show
?for “to pull”, because GitTrail never fetches on its own.
